There is often a moment in a session when my client and I simultaneously drop into a place of complete calm and quiet. For me, this is the moment. It is finally quiet enough to hear the sound of your own heart. And I believe it is from this place that lasting healing originates.
I spent the first part of my career providing therapeutic massage in a busy outpatient physical therapy clinic. It was there that I learned first-hand about the kinetic and myofascial patterns that develop and slowly imbed themselves in our anatomy. I also began learning about chronic pain as I witnessed so many of our patients suffer for years without relief. I was surprised to notice that some of the most crooked bodies experienced essentially no pain at all, while other apparently structurally perfect bodies lived each day in agony. My first experience as a nurse was in the Neurosurgery unit at UVA Medical Center. The same patients I saw in the clinic were now undergoing spinal fusion, often followed by Pain Management. Later as a Hospice nurse, I came to understand all too well how pain has a way of filling every aspect of one's life. And yet, I witnessed tremendous resilience and deep healing. People found peace and ease even when their physical bodies were no longer willing to cooperate. Comforted by their families and surrounded by love and support, these patients found a new kind of hope.
Fast forward to today, I am seeking a Master's degree in Acupuncture. I am also a Reiki practitioner and Certified Sound Healer. I rely heavily on traditional manual therapies but also recognize the essential importance of witnessing and supporting the spirit. I believe that the imprint of a regulated nervous system connects you to your innate inner wisdom, guiding you to a place of authentic transformation. Because all of my experiences have shown me how healing begins and ends in the heart.
